Pompstation WML

It seems so ordinary, drinking water that comes straight from the tap. Yet there is a lot involved in making clean and fresh drinking water that always tastes good. Waterleiding Maatschappij Limburg (WML) supplies drinking water of perfect quality. They do this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. And they have been doing so for almost 100 years!

Demand

The production of drinking water requires treatment systems consisting of pumps, various filters and piping systems. Many of these components need to be protected against corrosion. This also applies to all pipe parts and pump pedestals in WMS’ distribution pumping station in northern Limburg.

The water company contacted Kersten coating technology for the coating of the pipe parts and pump plinths.

Approach

Coatings used in drinking water production have to meet very strict requirements. After all, these coatings may not release any substances that could be harmful to the health of consumers or otherwise affect the quality of the drinking water.

We coat the pipe sections and pump plinths both internally and externally with a Rilsan coating. This durable coating is produced on the basis of vegetable oil, so it is a real natural product! Rilsan complies with Kiwa Assessment Guideline BRL-K759 and various European directives. This makes this coating very suitable for use in drinking water production.

The coating was applied by means of a swirl sintering process. This was done at our site in Brummen. Externally, the Rilsan® coating can be finished in any RAL colour. Waterleiding Maatschappij Limburg chose to apply a specific final colour to the outside of the pipe sections and plinths.

Result

The high-quality, plant-based Rilsan coating protects the pipe sections and pump plinths against corrosion for the lifetime of the installation. The applied final colour ensures recognition of the various fluid flows in the pumping station.
