MEYER WERFT is one of the largest and most modern shipyards in the world. The originally German company builds luxury cruise ships, ocean liners, ferries and super yachts. Employing more than 3,200 professionals, the company works daily on the shipbuilding of the future. In doing so, they apply the latest technologies.

Demand

Modern cruise ships require some 400 kilometres of pipework. Not only for water supply, but also for air conditioning, compressed air, fuel, exhaust ducts and sprinkler systems. These pipes are custom-made in MEYER WERFT’s modern piping centre.

After problems with the coating system used at the time, MEYER WERFT started looking for a new partner. This is how the company found Kersten Coating Technology. Since 2011, we have been their partner for coating drinking water pipes.

Approach

The pipes are given a Rilsan coating by Kersten coating technology. This is done by means of vortex sintering, where preheated parts are immersed in a bath of powder.

Result

The main property of the Rilsan coating is corrosion protection. By coating metal drinking water pipes with a protective Rilsan layer, rust is prevented. This high-quality and environmentally friendly coating protects the piping system against corrosion throughout the lifetime of the system.
