In chip production technology, every detail matters. For the production of microchips, used in everyday smartphones, ultrapure water (UPW) is essential. This water must be free of any contamination to ensure chip quality. Ovivo, a specialist in water treatment solutions, faced the challenge of treating their filtration tanks in such a way as not to contaminate the ultrapure water during the process.

Approach

We were approached because of our expertise in high-performance industrial coatings. The collaboration started by thoroughly analysing the needs and specifications of Ovivo’s filter tanks. We then implemented a specialised process to coat the inside of the metal tanks with Halar® ECTFE. This fluoropolymer is resistant to extreme temperatures and chemically inert, so it does not introduce contaminants into the production process. Applying the coating involved several steps:

• Preparation by blasting the tanks to ensure optimal adhesion.
• Comprehensive application of Halar to a thickness between 600 and 800 µm to achieve the desired pore density.
• Finishing with an exterior anti-corrosion system in a specific RAL colour, customised for Ovivo.

Result

This strategic collaboration resulted in a fully controlled and optimised coating process that ensures the protection and durability of the tanks.
